Carla Dobbie is a Gadigal/Sydney-based composer, orchestrator, and arranger. Originally a jazz trombonist trained at the Sydney Conservatorium (B. Music Studies, Jazz), they then pursued a Master of Arts Screen (Music) at the Australian Film Radio and Television School, and have since been working in film and video games. Dobbie works alongside the Valheim composer Patrik Jarlestam and Malin Håkansson as part of Solid Sounds Audio Productions, a Swedish/Australian music, sound design, and voice-over production house.

Since childhood, Dobbie has played trombone in many different bands and orchestras, becoming well-versed in many styles including jazz, classical, musical theatre, salsa, bossa-nova, samba, electronic music, and more. Having hung up the trombone in favour of composition, their expertise from live-music now gives their scores and orchestrations an idiomatic and eccentric flair. Since pursuing composition, their work has premiered around the country at Sydney SXSW, Adelaide Film Festival, the Sydney Opera House, and internationally at CineQuest (USA) and on all major gaming consoles.

Specialising in creating unique music worlds for projects, they have gained composer credits in different genres of short films, most notably in their operatic/tango score from Set Menu (2024, dir Hamilton) and the electronic/RNB music for Bikes-Tender (2024, dir. Awad). Their eclectic skillset also features in the Far Out Games/Konami title Deliver At All Costs (2025) where Dobbie worked alongside co-lead composer Patrik Jarlestam to create a 100 minute score of 50’s big band, jazz, country, rock, and classical genres.

Dobbie has worked with and learned from some of Australia’s finest, including; Cameron Patrick, Greg Wise, Andrew Robertson, Sandy Evans, James Greening, Ellen Kirkwood, Mohammad Awad (3Awadi), Hinano Fujisaki, and Miles Rooney. They were also granted placement at the APRA SongHubs Screen Composer Workshop (2024) and mentored by award-winning composer Caitlin Yeo.
